God

By: Malik Flemming

I heard a courier say that war never changes

That men do
by the roads they walk The choices they make

War never changes
Because the men that wage war never change

Because greed will grip the hearts of the old and pride will cloud the minds of the young

Because apathy will render the capable inert and wroth fed to the unwise

And lo, the trumpets that heralded the end of the old world The swan song of the “civilized world”
All the good the cleansing did

For all the heat, the destruction The cold, the death
Man survived

Man walked the earth they had ripped asunder To kill one another
To make war again
Because man can’t change

So war will never change
