Piece of you

By: Anna Riddo

You’re living through my words

How I speak to you

You are living through my conscience

As if  I still can still hear you

You are living through my memories

Even though I wish I could see you

You are living through my smile

Although it’s been harder to

You are living through my voice

Each time I speak of you

You are living through our family

The one you provided to

You are living through my stories

Created just like you used to

You are living through my love

Never ending for you I remember your scarf

I have your hat that’s blue

Trying to hold onto pieces of you

I have your lipstick so distinct

Your very own special shade of pink

I have your hat with the blue visor

If only it could bring back my advisor

I have your glasses to be a movie star

We think of you each time we drive your car

I have your poncho that I made

I have your life story with your perfect grade

I have your comb when your hair we dyed

But I haven’t counted the times that I cried

I have things I remember

That can’t be replaced

Your ocean eyes

Your smiling face

Your warm hugs

Your words words of truth

Memories dance in my mind

Of you in my youth

I kept things but they aren’t you

They can be bought or retraced

But things I can remember

Those I can’t replace
