“Superficial Fears”
Superficial Fears
By: AnnaMaria Leal
When asked “What are you afraid of?”
The answers are quite predictable, “spiders,” “flying,” “snakes,” “the dark, “heights,” and “death” to name a few.
And while these are all completely valid fears for one to have, if we are being honest, these aren’t the things that keep us up at night.
Why don’t we answer truthfully about what really haunts our dreams. The things we dread and fear each and every day.
When will someone we say, “I’m afraid of being alone,” “I’m afraid that I have done nothing with my life,” “I’m afraid of the chance that everyone around me hates me,” “I’m afraid that I will never find someone who truly cares for me,” or that “I’ll never amount to anything.”
When will be break the barrier lined with these normalized fears and being to address the things that eat at us each night.
